5 Ways to Boost Your Confidence

Are you sitting home alone again? It’s cool, it’s cool. We’re not judging you if that’s what you want to do. But if that isn’t the case, then you need to start evaluating what the heck is making you so mopey. Your confidence has likely dried up, whether it have been from a bad breakup or a fight with a friend or you having just gotten laid off at work. Ouch. Makes you feel worthless, doesn’t it?

But you’re actually a pretty cool person. And to prove it to you, we can help you get back on the horse with these easy, confidence-boosting tips.

Exercise

We’re not talking getting ripped or pulling trucks with your teeth or running a triathlon. We mean just getting yourself out there and moving. Exercise is great for waking up your body, getting your blood pumping, and all-around making yourself feel good. It helps you feel less like a lump and more like a somebody. Of course, you can always exercise in the comfort of your own home, but going to a gym or taking jogs outside can further boost your confidence with the bonus of meeting people. Who knows? Maybe that guy on the treadmill next to you thinks you’re cute.

Care for Your Appearance

You don’t need to buy a whole new wardrobe or completely change who you are, but just clean up a bit. If you haven’t shaved, showered, or brushed your teeth in three days, you’re probably going to feel awful. So get out of bed, wash your face, and run a comb through your hair. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your mood can improve. And with you cleaning up so nice, more people will jealously eye you on the street. How can that not be good for confidence?

Learn Something New

Nothing makes a person feel more worthwhile than when they succeed in something new. You’re suddenly Superman! Pick something that’s always interested you—guitar, origami, car maintenance—and start taking classes, lessons, or reading up on it. Not only will you have fun, but you’ll feel like a worthwhile human being again, knowing that there’s still so much out there for you to try and see and experience. This tactic is especially rewarding if it’s something that’s helpful in a given day (e.g. cooking, plumbing). You’ll suddenly be more self-sustaining, giving you more confidence in who you are as a person.

Create a List of Goals… and Then Achieve Them

It sounds so cliché, but it’s true. Get a pad of paper, sit down, and think about all of the things you’ve always wanted to experience. Make a true, legitimate list that incorporates both your big, lofty ambitions and your small, easy-to-please desires. That way, you’re more apt to check some of those items off, thereby giving you more confidence as you see all you’ve accomplished in life. But the key is not to just sit around after you make the list. You need to actually work at achieving those goals. And even if some of them never happen, it’ll improve your mood just by getting out there and trying.

Remember the Goals You’ve Achieved in the Past

Even if you’re feeling like a failure, it doesn’t mean that you are. While it’s easy to get caught up in all of the bad things that have happened to us or the things that we’ve failed to do, it’s more important to remember all of the good stuff. The fact of the matter is if you truly were that unsuccessful of a human being, you wouldn’t have lived this long. So start reminiscing about your awesomeness! Just like your list of goals yet to achieve, sit down and write a list of goals you already have achieved. You’ll be surprised how much is there. And if that was all through little self-confidence, imagine how much more you’ll get done with a big bucket of it.
